I have been working at BP full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Very fun company to work for! Very good work life balance and so many different areas to work in. Everyone wants you to succeed and tries to help you succeed. Pay and benefits are good.

Cons

Typical big company. You can sometimes feel like you're wasting your time with the bureaucracy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplify where you can and get rid of people who are underperforming.

    I worked at BP

    Pros

Good Benefits, reasonable compensation, flexibility in managing your career, focus on training employees - the company spends a lot of money on learning courses and pays for external training and there is a training budget. There are also many good in-house training to attend.

    Cons

Reorganization always every two to four years. The org. structure is always changing do to political battles at the top - the bottom guys have to live with the decisions - good or bad. Usually the guys at the top move to better job and pay as result of the new design, but the consequences of negative fall-out are felt through the organization at the mid-to-lower level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should consider how people are getting promoted in the organization. As much as the firm preaches meritocracy, pay and bonus are decided by few individuals and favoritism and politics gets in the way of meritocracy. The guys at the very top has no idea what is going on in terms of these silly games when it comes to compensation, promotions, and hiring decisions.

I worked at BP as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Nice money and Some nice people

    Cons

The friction between BP employees and contractor employees is so thick. Older employees seem overconfident and never ask the right questions or were never trained having inherited the job. You can tell BP had now competitive selection.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better get some newer or at least trained people on site. All the nice talk and publicity on site is fake.
