BSkyB Employee Review
BSkyB – “Unpleasant working environment- get the name on your CV and then go elsewhere”
3 of 4 people found this helpfulPros
SKY is in an exciting and interesting industry sector, and has some passionate people, the culture is fast paced, and they have a strong recognisable brand.
Cons
Unfortunately despite the strong brand and exciting industry sector, employees get treated with a degree of contempt, with little to no positive feedback or appreciation for your efforts. The business suffers from having some very weak junior managers who lack the maturity or expertise to effectively manage and motivate, and appear to be promoted due to longevity in the business rather than through capability. Pay is slightly below average, with a bonus culture based more on drinking performance rather than actual performance. It pains me to say it, but I would hesitate to recommend it as a place to build a career. Get the brand name on your CV, and then find somewhere else where you'll be treated as an individual, and an adult.
Advice to Senior Management
Making SKY a great place to work a business objective is admirable, but I would suggest that focusing on day to day appreciation and input from managers to employees will create far more loyalty and motivation from staff than gimmicky grand prix, or 'events' across the campus. If the business feels that these are what drives performance and motivation, then its strategy is hugely misguided.
