Former Employee - Network Engineer in Ipswich, England (UK)

I worked at BT full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Good working conditions, good work life balance. Many great people. Experience at one of the biggest ISPs.

Cons

Not much perspective to progress. Very limited access to information or flexibility to let you discover anything beyond your own desk. Lots of force fed meaningless esoteric management theories . Hideous political intricacies at mid-management level.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More power and involvement to the people at lower levels. Simplify processes and align information flows with processes.

I worked at BT as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good structured career progression for graduates on the graduate scheme. Some interesting work if you are in the right areas. Good friendly environment and nice campus at Adastral park.

    Cons

I got the impression that some of the technical research areas are not valued so much by the company. In the area I worked in funding seemed low and some basics were not provided which employees had been asking for for a long time.

I have been working at BT full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    New offices.
    Nothing else really

    Cons

New offices in Sandwell have hade many cars stolen from the local car parks, people being mugged for their laptops... Not a nice area at all
Senior management appear intent on outsourcing all roles to India, improving margins and retaining their bonuses with no concern for staff morale or customer satisfaction.
    Zero comms from line management.
    Losing customers rapidly.
No written job description means zero promotional prospects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Outsourcing everything to India is not the answer to every problem, communicate with the staff, hold team meetings and actually ask what's wrong.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
