Pros

The management was upbeat and helpful with questions. Very positive environment working environment. Employees receive a 50% store discount- helpful with Banana Republic prices.

Cons

They really emphasize that you push the Banana Republic credit card on customers. I did not enjoy this aspect of selling as most customers (rightly) were not interested in another credit card but management would scold if you did not make a borderline annoying attempt to get the customer to sign up.

    Pros

An okay job for college students. The discount is great because you get it at Banana, Gap and Old Navy. Coworkers were fun and great product.

    Cons

Terrible management, only cared about themselves. Some were very controlling and didn't care about the associates at all. Always cut hours from employees.

    Pros

-excellent employee discount -on trend product at reasonable prices -great benefits -promote from within the company -friendly welcoming environment amongst coworkers -encouraging employee engagement fun factor events keep the atmosphere light -a great mix of people of all ages/races/sexes and different personality types to work with -excellent paid time off -very clear policy & procedure creates an easy to execute organized store -many technological tools at your disposal -excellent online training program -higher respect for employee work/life balance than at other retailers -user friendly payroll management system -the easiest to learn/use Point of Sale system and register training program -active in the community -ample opportunity to move up from base level employee to a leadership role -socially and environmentally conscious -meals and breaks are always adhered to and employees are never pressured to work through them

    Cons

-pays much less than other retailers -ridiculously low annual raises -continuously raise unrealistic store standards and annually lessen payroll provided -company initiatives are not given extra funding but are expected to still be executed on minimal hours -getting promoted above base level management is more about who backs you than the quality of work you do or experience -no time in the payroll to use the excellent programs and training at your disposal -there is a lot of accountability for the field team to meet budgeted expectations but little to no guidance or solutions provided by upper management when stores struggle -inability to meet customer's personal shopper expectations due to being understaffed -a lot of pressure on all team members to drive credit card enrollment -typical retail politics and upper management snobbery and cattiness -unrealistic budgets make bonuses impossible to achieve -corporate's policies protect employees from wrongful termination but also turns getting rid of under-performing employees into a long and painful process -errors on corporate's end are often counted against field management during audits -a lot of errors occur due to incomplete mark down reports and missed items during promotional changes; updates informing the field of these mistakes come too little too late -store technological support, facilities services, and credit card support services are terrible

    Advice to Management

You put out a lot of great ideas and excellent standards the field team wants to execute, but simply will never be able to live up to their original intent because we are not funded properly. Support your field team by giving them the hours to better service your customers and add on sales! Take a deeper look at the hiring process for upper management; something is broken there. Under-qualified candidates are being promoted to provide little direction, condescending attitudes, and no real support to your districts. WISE UP. Everyone overspends before a "visit" to continually provide an unrealistic standard for the store appearance to upper management. Those stores that truly always look immaculate have a higher payroll allowance or slow or predictable traffic patterns. Go in unannounced during peak hours to every store to see what it's really like, and rather than blaming management take a look at the traffic vs. sales floor coverage to reevaluate expectations.
