I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital part-time

Pros

Good experience if you are just getting into the veterinary field.

Cons

Some workers don't seem to truly care for animals, it is just a job to them. Animals don't get quality care that they deserve. Little to no training, you kind of have to fend for yourself and ask a lot of questions.

I have been working at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company gives a great place to learn and grow as a technician. You gain experience and learn to be independent (which is a double-edged sword). Also, pretty good benefits for such a stingy company.

    Cons

Extremely, overly money-driven. Not enough focus on patient, always being pushed to up-sell (without the exact verbiage). Will move managers/doctors without notice, making it almost impossible to get to know and get attached to a manager/doctor. The pay is terrible. I've almost gotten a $1.50 raise in my 3 years with the company (and I'm good at my job).

    Advice to Management

Show more interest in the patients and clients with money issues (besides Care Credit). Pay increases Turnover rate

  2. Great starter career, not long term.

I have been working at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great starter career. They work to cross train most associates to give them well rounded resumes and skill sets. The company also attempts a "2 year plan" Ideally they would like associates to move up in the company within two years. Great overall vision for pet health care. Generally good benefits.

    Cons

Not ideal for non mobile associates. If you can move out of state when needed you can move up quickly. They typically hire non veterinary associates to run the hospitals, leaving staff wanting for better support and management. Not a good work/life balance. The company believes if associates are not available 7-7-7 they are not ideal full time associates. Pay is so-so. Not ideal for long term career. If you work in the corporate office, life is great, in the field not so much. No unions to protect associates. You can be demoted without question.

    Advice to Management

Listen to associates in the field! Hire associates with veterinary experience to lead the hospitals!! Extend the same work/life balance offered to corporate associates at CTS to hospital associates.
