Focus onVeterinary medicine as a business more than most other hometown vets.

Pet Nurse (Former Employee)

ProsSince they focus on the business side of things, there are a lot of incentives to have a higher productivity as an employee. The more revenue you generate, the more they reward you even though the goals are pretty high. Lots of opportunities to move up in the company. If you work as a pet nurse then go to vet school, they offer positions as a student rep for banfield. They also love to hire recent vet school grads to start out their career after previously being a receptionist or pet nurse for them.

ConsYou end up "selling" clients a lot of services. If someone comes in for their dogs itchy skin, you would solve that issue with the doctors orders but then also recommend your medicated shampoo, a nail trim, and other vaccines and flea meds that the pet might be due for soon. The goal is drive up productivity and revenue with each client, then both the doctor and the pet nurse for the clients visit gets credit for all of the services purchased... Which can also be a pro, but this is exhausting everyday and takes a lot of time and seems insincere/irrelevant a lot of the time.

– I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Veterinary Assistant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time for less than a year

Pros: There's a lot of security in working for Banfield. You're guaranteed hours, benefits, and health care for you… Cons: Banfield doesn't seem concerned with burning their staff out. They push for so many pets to be seen but aren't provided provisions for adequate staffing.… Advice to Senior Management: Please put more care into Staff! Having a team full of crabby, burned out, over-worked people is ultimately not best for clients and patients and… Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend More

Pros: -3 free wellness plans for your pets -Decent pay/bonus schedule for Practice Managers -Computer system works pretty well, it's nice to be able to look up accounts… Cons: -Retail management - the hospital is open during PetSmart hours, so you will be working many weekends and holidays, and now that managers are salaried… Advice to Senior Management: No issues with upper management, but it's field management that needs a rehaul. Listen to the associates - if they're all coming to you with… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
