I worked at Banfield Pet Hospital full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Working with some of the co-workers & clients

Cons

Being told your position was one thing and then finding out you had to do everything. Working with a Veterinarian who had her favorites and many employees certainly were not them, also they were refused off and never got a chance to become a better employee.. She berated many people including employees in public. And lied to upper management about them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should do better training for all employees. Also they should listen to everyone, not just the Veterinarians. If someone disagreed with Vet or Management. the were shunned & some how punished.

    decent benefits. . . . .

    Cons

    Terrible and unqualified management, cut hours, low pay. Management harasses people who are unhappy there and corporate does nothing to monitor what they do. Corporate nonsense convolutes everything

    Pros

    Good benefits and time paid time off package. flexible hours. teams at the front line level are committed.

    Cons

    Middle management sends mixed messages and focus changes from week to week. There are very few veterinarians who understand the culture of the field involved in management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try communicating down and actually pay attention to what your associates are telling you. You may not believe it but they do have some vague concept of how to get through their days. They are, for the most part dedicated to both managing a profitable business AND providing quality pet care. Reduce the level of suspicion in both middle management and at the hospital level, no one trusts what the corporate office is going to do next. Actually follow through on associate engagement and stop changing the focus of the business objectives by week. One week it's associate engagement, the next week client service is important and the next labor control is all or nothing, most of your associates at the hospital level feel like they're a "Push Me Pull Me" in Doctor Doolittle.
