I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Holidays and time off are very generous.

Cons

Management often checked out of day to day activities and instead focus time on creating spreadsheets for upper management. Decisions are made without consult from the employees that know the business the best. Can be terminated for small infractions even with 10+ years of experience and exceeds expectations on reviews.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better feedback from employees. More loyalty for dedicated workers.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is comparable to a large law firm, but few if any weekends or late nights. There are some people who have worked at Bank of America for decades and who like it. Further, your role will change frequently, and so the job you are hired for won't be the job you're doing in even a year.

    Cons

Extremely stressful; lots and lots of politics (and so much of your time is spent fighting with people internally); uncertainty, with frequent rounds of layoffs that are not performance-based. People can win medals for performance one day and be terminated shortly afterwards. Also, few opportunities for internal advancement; promotions are rare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire from within, which would build loyalty.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It was a steady job with insurance and vacation.

    Cons

    1. Although sick days were allotted each year, be sure not to use them. Use of the days is counted against the employee for a year to the date of use. People are fired (not me) for using sick days.
    2. Benefits package seemed to diminish over the years to lesser forms of health insurance with higher co-pays and deductibles.
    3. You can climb the latter if management likes you. Otherwise, you're stuck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing favorites, loosen up on the sick days, if you have a layoff, review your severance package and be a little more generous and competitive with the market, and don't allow your managers to promote only those with whom they have a friendly relationship.
