Bank of America HR Professional in Charlotte, NC:   (Past Employee - 2009)

Pros

Because of its size, there are potential opportunities to work on interesting, large-scale projects. Coworkers tend to be engaging, helpful, and smart. Very strong and strategic HR function. Focused on business results and using data in decision-making. Good benefits package and competitive salaries.

Cons

Requires a lot of networking and political shrewdness to navigate and get things done because of the size and complexity. Reorganizations mean that managers frequently change (so make sure you document all your accomplishments and make them known or you’ll get shortchanged at review and talent planning time) and more time spent on dealing with the changes than being able to focus and drive out transformational activities. Form can matter over substance so be visible. As an employee, you may be viewed as just an expendable commodity

Advice to Senior Management

Don't make promises you can't or won't deliver whether it is the benefits of acquisitions and organizational changes (which requires going beyond just putting together a new org chart). Also lose the overused 'stay focused' phrase repeated to employees during downsizing and reogs. It's tiresome and uninspiring.
