Pros

Big company, lots of different experience can be gained.

Cons

Bad ideas too deeply ingrained. Inertia. It is hard to remove "dead wood" employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to change from the ground level. When organization changes are made, allow enough time for change to happen before shaking things up again.

"Nice" place to be, but no long term opportunities.

I worked at Bank of America

    Pros

Many good people at the company. Compensation is generally fair. Training, if you can get it approved, is strong. Smart use of technology to improve operations. Decent place to learn commercial banking.

    Cons

Performance reviews are a joke. Zero opportunity for advancement or cross functional training. Low level of respect by Wall St firms. Management is vague in their all too frequent announcements. Little larger picture of downsizing efforts. Too much of operation focused on retail banking rather than growing middle market and corporate brand. Too many in middle management and backoffice are stuck in a rut and just going through the motions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to allow young employees to contribute to innovation. Frank Forrest's idea website was a nice start, but do more. Get middle managers to do more to to help with career development. Create opportunities to allow employees cross-functional training.

I have been working at Bank of America

    Pros

Flexible work environment and full time telecommuting is now a viable option. The paternity / maternity leave is excellent and the associates generally care about each other's well being. At times, it's like being part of a family.

    Cons

Constant reorganization. It simply never ends and the change is so rapid that gaps in operational risk controls develop quickly. The organization of the technology teams is lacking alignment with business needs and business processes making outside vendor systems more attractive than internal systems and this increases risk and decreases shareholder value. The educational reimbursement has not kept up with the cost of a decent education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No more than one 2 DOT reorganization every 5 years and one 3 DOT every 2 years. Slow down, associates and process governance can not keep up.
