Great ideals -- but not always lived up to

I worked at Bank of America as a contractor (more than 3 years)

Pros

Worked with many talented people. Great company values.

Cons

Not ideal for contractors. They pay below market rates for contract work because there are so many people looking. Poor planning will sometimes cancel projects and dump contractors at a moment's notice. During the banking crisis, when they were busy giving cushy bonuses to Merrill employees, they actually lowered the rates for all the contractors in my unit in the middle of their contracts.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Live up to your values. Don't hire contractors and lower their rates in the middle of contracts. Abandon the silly 18 month limit to carrying contractors.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For starters, it is a good place to learn. Lots of talents, but they are leaving in waves. Good technology footprint and lots of opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Benefits are ok, it used to be good, but it is getting worse by the day.Management (SLT) is in a dream land. They are moving all the jobs to NY and CLT, but the want the business from TX and other states. Someone heard one of the SLT (English), invasion of the Beatles.... All the direct leadership are all from across the pond in Technology. You are spared based on who you know. Not sure how long this is going to last.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the leadership and bring back the glory days of good banking leadership. The American way not the British way. The way they are hiring SLT with acting major to run the technology area, is not the right way. You can only cut cost so much, after which it starts bleeding. Not a good model.
