I worked at Bank of America full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Smart people, and interesting work - the current environment is difficult but navigating through these challenges can be exciting. Salary was pretty good, and the work-life balance was good as well. The company finally seems to be finding its identity.

Cons

Still a disjointed and "siloed" organization from all the multiple mergers - much work needed to complete integration, but progress has been made. Effects of cost-cutting still being felt, including the loss of talent. Culture still in a state of flux.

Advice to Management

Customer experience still needs work, but is improving. More effort to expose employees to different areas of the business would be helpful for new learning and new perspectives.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, retirement plans and time off. If you can get into a group that you click with the right people you will really enjoy your time at BAC. I really enjoyed working for the company but was in a bad group that had little work life balance and was ran by a large power click that would make your life miserable if you did not do things their way.

    Cons

If you end up in a group that has its power click formed then your best bet is to try be friends with them or stay out of it all together. If you avoid it completely you have a very little chance of being promoted in the appropriate timeline. Management would not promote people within but would hire people externally with less experience and knowledge.

  2. Top notch company--just bad fit with the down-to-earth, family atmosphere of Merrill Lynch.

    Pros

    Very detail-oriented company. Good benefits.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is HUGE here............VERY large company.

    Advice to Management

Office culture would benefit from more activities (picnics, luncheons, sports, etc). Atmosphere not one of camaraderie with co-workers.
