Pros

Bank of America does a lot of promotion from within and there are many lines of business for individuals to pursue. If one works hard and builds the right relationships, opportunities will present themselves. The benefit structure is also ideal with tuition reimbursement, child care assistance, flexible vacation time, health insurance, etc.

Cons

Bank of America does not prepare associates well for the next role. From a training perspective, all that's provided is a few virtual calls and desktop training. Otherwise, the new employee has to learn on the job. Also, salaries are not very competitive. As a manager, you are expected to work extremely hard with minimal recognition for going above and beyond. It is also challenging as the bank does not support retail banking centers with optimal staffing which can make it difficult to provide ideal service, sales, and operational results. Moreover, expectations are high with little assistance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The banking center has to be the focal point of the company if Bank of America desires to be #1 in customer service across all financial institutions. The clients are the most important part of our business and the associates have to be provided the appropriate assistance to handle the business. Also, Bank of America must do a better job of training its new to role employees. Each new teammate should have a peer mentor that he or she can shadow to make him proficient. In so doing, the experience associate can use this as an opportunity for development towards leadership roles. Moreover, the compensation structure should be more favorable and associates should be more highly appreciated.

I worked at Bank of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits and salary. A lot of opportunities if you develop relationships internally but that takes a lot of work, moving from retail banking to other divisions is difficult but can be done. Good people to work with and if you are fortunate enough to be hired into a good banking center with a good location, goals are attainable. Salary and bonus payouts are nice, if you spend a lot of time developing your team as a manager you will have a dependable high performing team (like anywhere else)

    Cons

High stress, constant change and senior leadership turnover. Sales goals can be fMost employees in retail work 6 days a week and if you're an exempt employee and wish to take a half day in the middle of the week to make up for working the saturday you must use leave which seems like a bush league move for a big bank that expects a lot from its managers. Overall I would say BofA is not bad and will help pay the bills and get you going in banking if you're motivated and self starting but there are a lot better jobs in banking out there (small banks are probably best, big banks seem to be all the same) and if you can find one of those you should take it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much they can do the company is too big. They seriously need to streamline manager duties and reporting for employees but the company is a labyrinth that makes it difficult.
