Unless you are Cypriot, you don't stand a chance for personal growth and advancement

I worked at Bank of Cyprus

    Pros

Working environment (strong relationships among employees)
    Young personnel (low age average)
    Steady and secure business
    Good reputation (customer's opinion)
    Modern and functional facilities

    Cons

Poor communication between Senior Management and low-end employees
Few chances for growth and advancement inside the company
Disappointing practices of using company's human resources
Low salaries and some benefits for specific employees
    Overtime work without payment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bank of Cyprus' Senior Management should share the success (good reputation, latest market share rise, year profits etc.) with the rest of the company such as the low-end employees (last but not least). A good recipe needs the best ingredients to become tasteful. Therefore, bonuses are for all employees and not for senior only.

Human Resources Department lacks of new and fresh ideas of graping the best out of every employee. For instance, Performance Management is out of HR's picture. In some cases, they choose to place some inappropriate Managers in wrong positions or transfer employees, without prior discussion, just to fill in gaps. In majority, the question "Who's the most suitable for the job?" is replaced with "Who has ever troubled his/her manager?" or "Who is thought as a threat according to supervisor report?".

I have been working at Bank of Cyprus

    Pros

They have their own training/skills seminars, with a variety to choose.
Salary is ok for juniors, compared to market.
    Overtime is paid in full.
Share options from time to time.
Reduced fees and pricing for your own banking needs.

    Cons

You can choose up to 2 (1 or 2-day) seminars per year. Other than that, they will not fund your MSc, a second foreign language or anything else.
Very slow career growth. Only a few promotions each year and the salary raises instructed by the government are better than the ones the senior management gives.
    Big company feel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more funding (maybe via LAEK) to whatever anyone is attending.
    Give better raises.
Adopt casual Fridays where possible (i.e. HQ buildings etc, not consumer branches).
