Baran Telecom – “Great benefits for the industry, poor upper management”
Pros
The benefits were great, and the support staff is excellent. Overall, middle managers (market, project and construction managers) were not micromanagers, but held their foreman responsible for the success or failure of their jobs.
Cons
Upper management is horrible. They are all from Isreal and do not understand that American way of doing business in the telecom industry. They are also very quick to close regional offices and lay off staff after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to set them up. They go in for gigantic projects, and rather then look for other work in the market when the project ends (or they get kicked out in many instances), they close up shop and leave many unemployed even though other work is in the area.
Advice to Senior Management
Being overly ambicious and greedy will eventually lead to the demise of this company in the United States. Micromanagment from the top to middle management is horrible because they do not spend time in the field knowing exactly what is going on, but they want to dictate activities even though they have no idea what is going on and discredit information given to them by their field management.
Promote American-born upper mangement (I'm am not talking about the "President" of the company who is more-or-less a glorified salesman). Bringing in corporate officers and directors from outside of the United States has contributed to the problem....especially with the language barrier.
Be honest to your clients....do not just tell them what you think they want to hear. To many promises have been made.....only to be broken....and having regional middle management look incompetent.
