Pros

Friendly people, LOTS of gratis, fun training, Good place to work.

Cons

Very gossipy, Sometimes can focus to much on sale and not as much on customer.

Advice to Management

Don't be so gossipy. When your first hired we are told that If you get caught gossiping about someone you will lose your job.... But once I started working more often I realized that was a very forgotten rule. The biggest gossipers there were my managers

    Pros

    - Rewarding experience with building clients
    - Amazing product with endless possibilities
    - 50% employee discount

    Cons

Unrealistic goals, rules and expectations regardless of job title. No room for growth unless you commit to sucking up and the company still prefers to hire outside from the company rather than its own bread and butter. So much miscommunication from senior management that no employee has any idea of anything happening outside their store. Intimidation and pressure filters down from Regional level to District and right to store management to the point where its unnecessary and makes even the BA's uneasy. Often BA's and Key Holders can wind up doing more work and having higher sales goals on most days than an ABM or BM. Unfair bonuses for making monthly plan; if the store does 12% over sales plan, they achieve their maximum bonus goal where the boutique manager gets a $1K bonus and BA's get under $100 even though employees can sometimes outsell and have higher metrics than the BM. Employees are basically required to put the company first before anything else regardless if you're sick (with a doctor's note), have an emergency, etc and only staff the smallest amount of people to where if something happened where you couldn't work, the whole store has to limp on without you. Next-to-no gratis but employees are required to feature and wear the product (including limited edition products) which results in having to spend out of pocket. Working at store level is an enjoyable experience and depending on your location, I would say give it a shot. However, my experience with Bare Escentuals has been nothing but cut-throat, catty and unprofessional and as a result, I'm looking to jump ship for a better cosmetic company.

    Advice to Management

Stop coming up with ridiculous expectation of employees and start treating them fairly. Recognize and reward employees for the hard work they do. Stop pressuring employees to sell like they're machines but turn around and give customers coupons, free product, etc with no minimum purchase that hurts their metrics and hold them accountable when it was out out of the employees hands from the start. Even customers remark that bareMinerals has changed and it only comes off as money-hungry so maybe you might want to start with that idea before anything else

Great products, wonderful customers, but unorganized and incompetent management and out-of-touch company.

    Pros

Gratis. Always receiving new products and the discount is great. Very upbeat and energetic setting. The customers are amazing (you have a few bad apples.) You get to play in makeup all day. Definitely room to advance in the company if you put in the work.

    Cons

Micromanagement!! Every little detail is overseen, and not in a good way. This company spends so much time on the little petty things (like clocking in exactly on the minute) that they miss out on a lot of the bigger issues. The company is all about numbers. Incompetent and underqualified management is a big problem, but an even bigger problem is when complaints are made very little if anything is done. They drag out issues until someone gets fed up and just quits, and then they move on as if nothing happened.

    Advice to Management

When there are several complaints about management, from several different people, something needs to be done. I know a lot of your ideas sound good in board meetings, but on the actual selling floor they're quite the opposite. Stop giving direction from way up, come spend a day in an actual boutique and see what it takes to efficiently run the store, and go from there.
