I have been working at Bare Escentuals

Pros

Great corporate culture.
Opportunity to work with many cross-functional partners.
Very lateral company, lots of exposure to Director and VP level partners.
50% product discount.

Cons

Lack of investment in new systems.
Flow of information across job functions is sometimes a challenge.
Sick days cannot be used as PTO, despite misinformation from HR.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The BE culture makes it a great place to work. Please maintain the BE spirit as the merger progresses.

    Pros

    BE is a great place to work if you enjoy doing makeup and selling. An outgoing, friendly personality is definitely a must if you want to be successful. The employee discount is great and there is a lot of opportunity for growth.

    Cons

    Some of the customers can be a pain and it's not easy to take time off. Even a part-time job has to be treated like a career. There are a lot of expectations, but if you work hard you will be successful.

    Pros

    50% discount on product, great health insurance, fair pay from fair store managers, flexible scheduling, reasonable about taking time off

    Cons

    Only company in the beauty industry that doesn't pay commission, constantly changing rules handed down from corporate, full-time employees mishandled, punishments for not meeting sales goals but no rewards if you do, corporate managers have no idea what it's like to actually be working in one of the boutiques.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    #1. Sales goals should be based on the store's actual foot traffic, not on an arbitrary number that corporate comes up with. Low-volume store employees have a considerably harder time meeting a $65 p/h sales goal than, for instance, the Mall of America store.
    #2. Pay your employees commission. There's very little motivation to meet sales goals without it, particularly when there's not even any appreciable acknowledgement for doing so.
    #3. Stop screwing over your full-time employees by cutting down their hours when business is slow. They're the ones manning the stations when business is slow, and when you cut their hours they lose PTO, too, so they can't even take time off.
