Barnes & Noble College Bookstores Supervisor in Boston, MA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Excellent staff; fairly independent structure while maintaining employee benefits of Barnes & Noble Bookstores.

Cons

Incompetent, disconnected, and exploitative higher management. Pay is uneven/not based on work or responsibilities (some paid considerably less than others in the same position, regardless of amount of time employed, experience, or workload)

Advice to Senior Management

In stressful times, when there is a lot of traffic, it is best to maintain composure. As managers, you are responsible for representing the overall state of the store. Do not let personal issues or swaying emotions show in how you manage your staff. On days when you are happy, it is fine, but on days when you are angry, it brings unneeded stress to every level of staff.
