I have been working at Barnes & Noble College Bookstores full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great opportunity to lean how to lead and function in a high energy fast pace retail environment

    Cons

UNFAIR PAY! Most employees are part-time and make around minimum wage. Those who are full time outside of Management are giving huge responsibilities, but are still paid relatively low for the workload. Management pay is unfairly set by Regional Managers. If you are liked your salary is set higher, if you are not their favorite person your pay is set at the bare minimum the company allows you to be paid, regardless of your work level and experience!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a scoring or point system to help determine management salaries. Rather than providing a Regional Manager full authority to set a rate as long as it is within a very large range set by the company. Example of the range used is somewhere around $35,000 - $80,000 for which the Regional can work within.
