I have been working at Barnes & Noble

    Pros

Everyone I work with seems to enjoy their jobs. There isn't really a downside to promoting the written word in this digital age. They provide good benefits, are flexible with your schedule and you get a great discount!

    Cons

Sometimes the higher up's in the company will want to change how things are done, promotional material displayed etc and most of the time it is not conducive from a bookseller's standpoint which can be very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some advice from the actual bookseller's doing the work before making big changes in store set-up or flow.

I have been working at Barnes & Noble part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours for college students or people with other jobs. Diverse and educated group. Discount is 30% for merchandise and 50% for food and coffee.

    Cons

Horrible pay for all positions. Hours can be sporadic or non existent at times. You should consider working for this company only as a part time employee that needs flexibility. No one that is in a management position or lead position is satisfied.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide your employees with consistent scheduling, lead by example, and cut back on the micromanaging.
