I worked at Barnes & Noble full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Generally the staff is great. You will gain a lot of knowledge. I was paid well, but I am sure that tenured managers are being demoted or forced out.

    Cons

Upper management is very political. The company has changed a lot over the years due to economic factors. I worked at 6 different stores. Each store is ran completely different from all the others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should stand by your "We Listen Program" or get rid of it if you are not interested in knowing the truth.

I worked at Barnes & Noble part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you enjoy working with customers, learning about books, and have a gift for sales this is the job for you!

    Cons

Selling memberships can be tedious and the pay could be higher given the task that are required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be some type of bonus system for performance or increase in skill level. Change the benefits of having a membership to Barnes & Noble. There is not enough incentive to get customers to consistently renew their membership by choice and little convincing.
