In my experiences, co-ops are the equivalent of data monkeys.

I worked at Baxter full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very nice, welcoming people. Pay well for co-ops.

    Cons

I worked out of their Round Lake, IL location which was in the middle of nowhere. You were also forced to buy your own coffee, food, etc. Almost nothing was provided at Baxter. I was not the part of most data analyses; I was however forced to learn how to work tons of different machines to collect data for superiors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use your co-ops! They're more than just data monkeys.

I have been working at Baxter full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary and management level incentive pay
    Opportunity to make a difference
    The people

    Cons

    R&D management:
    is highly politicized
is unable to communicate a vision
    is not strategic
fails to invest in its people and its pipeline
repeatedly fails to execute according to plan
offers lip service but reality is, management does not respect its people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO and board need to clean house at Senior Management (VP-levels) in Bioscience division R&D
