I have been working at Bayer HealthCare full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Supportive team, intelligent and capable colleagues that care about their work, positive environment

    Cons

It is a German company, so some adjustment to the German culture and approach is needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing women and non-Germans in leadership positions would help. Overall though, nice work.

Typical corporate America - good money, low empowerment.

I have been working at Bayer HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Excellent 401(k), nice time off packages, great pay. Company has a very in-depth intranet and info is accessible to all employees. Company seems to embrace technology. Company communicates good values system.

    Cons

Individual authority is VERY limited - All decisions must be fed up the chain and approved by the CEO (i.e. additional headcount, capital spend, etc.) - even the VPs are not empowered to make $40k hiring decisions. Frustrating, slow-moving company with arthritic decision speed. Corporate culture is to work 24/7, recognition is for working "long hours" (read: weekends, evenings, holidays) vs. actually achieving anything. Also, company is extremely reluctant to take any risks at all, therefore communications are exceedingly slow. Org structure is constantly changing/restructuring - feels a bit like change for change's sake, as the changes aren't held long enough to measure true impact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You pay people some seriously good money to pass all the decisions to you. Your HealthCare employees are frustrated and too tired to speak up about it. Reward innovation, invest in long-term success - this will better motivate your employees. Execute your values, don't just communicate what they are. Additionally, focus on stability - the constant change has worn people down.
