Pros

Stipend allows you to live well.
There are opportunities of collaboration.
Work/life balance really depends on who you choose as your mentor, which is both good and bad.

Cons

Healthcare is not good enough.
Parking (even with benefits) is still very expensive.
There are not a lot of extracurricular activities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If parking will continue to be expensive, at least give us easy access to the parking lots 24/7
Increase the insurance benefits.

I worked at Baylor College of Medicine as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Academic Medical Center, Brand Recognition, Recently created the Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center and are condensing offices to the new McNair building for better operational efficiency.

    Cons

BCM takes advantage of student interns as free labor. Several students from nearby universities were given carrots which were subsequently redacted once the administrator got what they needed from the student. There were promises of employment or paid internships after so long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    This isn't my issue.

    Pros

    World-class researchers.
    Great facilities.
Collaborations are there if you need them.
    Proximity to other world-class institutions.

    Cons

School has money issues (but improving?).
Progress of Ph.D. students not facilitated.
Faculty can be indifferent to helping a budding scientist (although some are supportive).
Administration can seem totalitarian. Sometimes the voices of the students seem unheard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Transparency! We want to know what's going on.
