Current Employee - Software Developer  in  Dallas, TX
Current Employee - Software Developer in Dallas, TX

    Pros

    - 2 days work from home (usually), Good People, Smart IT staff (non-management), pay for DART transportation, work that really matters to people, challenging work

    Cons

    - Long thankless hours are the norm (bragging about 90+ hour weeks)
    - Unethical management
    - Unacceptable quality, No QA staff
    - Wreck less software time estimates (A BIG project is a few weeks...avg turnarounds are same day.....)
    - No architecture or architects
    - project management is a complete joke to fool non-IT upper mgmt
    - Inundated by Emails that have nothing to do with your job. Reflective of the fact they can't manage IT
    - Cross team cooperation terrible
    - Requirements are a joke. Test in production, see if they like it. If not, hack something together to meet all the requirements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more ethical management that will say no to requests that are potentially harmful to patient lives. Stop expecting everything to be a 1 hour hack-job fix!
