I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, translated, opportunities like this just don't come around as often in the average career as we all might like. Massive need, real and measurable value attached to awesome customers supported by simply some of the best and brightest people in our industry - team BV. Often when watching game films, it is easy to focus on who missed what block all while the scoreboard shows W. I enjoy coming to work every day and can feel my self being stretched and learning and that energizes me.

Cons

With so many weapons and so much opportunity, picking the right targets to aim at can be half the battle. Velocity like this comes from great target selection.

Advice to Management

Go with the one that brought you to the dance. Great talent....no barriers.

    Pros

No one gets fired, almost Collegial environment in the right departments Good amount of stability

    Cons

Don't necessarily reward or appreciate good work, most of the time it goes unrecognised You won't make much money

    Advice to Management

If you want to grow, find a few good men, which do exist in the company, support them but have a different reporting line for them. Listen to good line managers.

I worked at Bazaarvoice full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was always a wonderfully open and fun place to work with exceptional people around you and a culture of success. Politics was kept to a minimum and the various benefits, perks and celebrations were great. Poor leaders that did not uphold the values of the company were dealt with quickly. The respect for employees of different styles and backgrounds was tremendous. Provided a lot of training for a smaller company.

    Cons

When you add up the growing list of recent negative events pre and post IPO - questionable leadership additions, the almost complete exodus inside certain departments due to horrible leadership (and nothing done about it), letting go or not saving some extremely talented and respected leaders with great track records, promotion of others into key mgt roles that have left people shaking their heads, new product offerings falling flat, the strangely overpriced purchase of a weak competitor (and subsequent DOJ investigation), the announcement of a subsequent offering of shares so big investors can unload - and this looks very much like a company that has lost its way during the chase to become a public company, make a few people rich and operate in the public eye. Still probably a good place to work for some people in certain roles but all of the things that made this place great like the respectful people-oriented culture, zero tolerance for jerk leaders and quick action to fix what was wrong, seem to be dying off fast. What a shame.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the roots that made you great before its too late. Getting bigger and operating as a public company are not reasons to let things change for the worse, they are simply excuses for not getting it done.
