Pros

Job stability, lots of possible training (depends on your manager), possibility for promotions without going into management, decent benefits, every other Friday off.

Cons

Bureaucracy. A lot of paperwork for anything that isn't already in place. Paperwork for anything you do wrong. Paperwork for anything you do right. Paperwork to do anything, really.

    Pros

Steady work that is interesting and challenging with long term schedules. Co-workers become your family and will support the mission's successes. Fair pay.

    Cons

Isolated from modern day technologies complicate the progresses and delay deliveries. Group think is prevalent aka 1984. Make one misstep and everyone will be punished equally. Constant repeated propaganda mimics brainwashing techniques.

    Advice to Management

This is a cost-plus DOE contract, long term pay freezes and increased benefit cost (shares) make life a struggle. Remove all double standards and add flexibility to the mixture to keep your employees from going toward more progressive opportunities.

    Incredibly bureaucracy stifles all productivity

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

3 Weeks of Vacation Plus 9/80 Schedule. Some managers try to mitigate all of the cons, but they can't stop a tidal wave.

    Cons

Very Low Pay, Depressing work environment, Too many rules to follow. No fitness center or other work-related perks.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management needs to realize that the labs are not to be run like the Navy or the Shipyards or MTS. They are full of creative engineers at the top of their career, and not naive Sailors who need to be micromanaged. Management also must find a way to cut the massive amount of deadweight, and compensate the workers who are at the top of the productivity curve. Giving out a maximum of 3-4% raises every two years to your top employees will not lead to a productive work environment during the long term.
