I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Very good sense of teamwork and collaboration in the interaction of managers engaged in a matrix style organization, symbolized by the corporate slogan "We are Better Together"

Cons

In the recent downsizing subsequent to the acquisition by Danaher Corporation, there was an exodus of substantial experience from the organization. Unclear what short term impact will be on the organization; longer term the organization will be great.very competitive.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Important that communication at all corporate levels be strong and clear to overcome some of the unfortunate communication gaps experienced in the 4th Quarter 2011.

    Pros

Pretty good benifits package with 401k and health. Pay rate is above average at start ( in Warehouse).

    Cons

Unprofessional Management, No room for advancement , Alot of favoritism- They tend to bring in former employes from other companies they worked with and promote them quickly. They even invent positions for them to fill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop putting all the responability on employees and take some yourself.

Once upon a time I actually couldn't wait to go to work - now I'm elated that I don't have to go there anymore!

    Pros

Employees with no vesting in management roles are excellent to work with. As others have stated, they are the glue that holds this company together, willing to help each other to accomplish goals and tasks as needed for the good of the products and each other. Development, mfg and support of high tech, complex electro-mechanical medical instruments and reagent products kept work interesting and challenging.

    Cons

High workload high stress environment with little to no reward for workers. Employees work is micro-managed, and it is done so by many groups. Managers lookout for managers, not their employees or the products they sell. Inability of senior management to develop and adhere to a long term strategy. Instead of fixing what they have they go out and acquire a new company or product. Merit less meetings, training and communication forums with no important content that occur just so managers can check it off their 'have to do' lists are counterproductive to completing real company set goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow a backbone - develop an honest strategy to correct issues that have plagued the company, its products and management for years, implement it and stick to it. Doing so may end up with a major management shake up but to be honest, you have already let a large sum of knowledge and talent exit and the real dead weight is still sitting there. You still have many talented employees remaining, let them perform for you and reward them as they deserve to be.
