I have been working at Bellevue University

Pros

It's a semi-collegiate atmosphere located in the Midwest. Managers go out of their way to give you stickers instead of feedback.

Cons

Over 90 people have either left or been let go recently. Many people are scared and looking for employment in other areas.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Boy, you need to take a hard look at what you are doing and who you are promoting. It isn't magic, you are focused on adults and adult learning. Take the time to learn your market.

I have been working at Bellevue University

    Pros

Small intimate university. Tons of possibilities to make a difference in the Omaha region. Some great employees who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences - so much talent.

    Cons

The university is in financial trouble and they don't know how to fix it. The senior execs (President, EVPs, VPs, etc.) don't seem to understand business principles. Yes, they are a non-profit but have to make money in order to pay their bills and add new educational programs, hire quality professors and support staff. The frustration comes from the inability to make decisions, develop a long-term strategy, etc. It's sad to see this happen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a new strategy, not a repeat of the old. It's not working. There is nothing to differentiate BU from any other online university.

Chaos- Management hasn't figured out how to manage and fiscal irresponsibility runs rampant

I have been working at Bellevue University

    Pros

Close to the Omaha Metro area. Tuition is free for employees, which enables you to earn a degree without the burden of student loans.

    Cons

Management has been fiscally irresponsible for years. Now layoffs are in full effect, but no one wants to admit it. The company is out of money and the quality of education they offer is close to a diploma mill. Advancement opportunities are slim to none. Only those willing to spend their time in politics will survive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees fairly, spend money wisely, hire based on talents instead of friendships. Stop running the good old boys club and start running a university!
