Pros

Team work, folks pulling together to achieve a common goal. Management is willing to listen to coworkers, and coworkers are willing to make the company successful. There are a large number of folks that have been at Benchmark for more than 10 years. There's a reason for that. Communication between coworkers and the drive to manufacture quality products makes this Division successful year after year.

Cons

The ebb and tide of contract manufacturing in general can be challenging with respect to family life.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep learning from the coworkers that do the job day in and day out. Keep supporting Quality as the #1 goal. Keep learning from mistakes to continually improve processes and systems.

    Pros

Benchmark is a company where one can work independently with little supervision. There are some very nice skill based opportunities concerning new technologies and disciplines.

    Cons

The problems with Benchmark have to do with long-term relationships with both employees and customers. Senior management does not do enough to foster relationships by providing incentives or praise for their employees. Most praise is at best shallow and only given sometimes after a customer has already provided it to the employee. The management focuses on short-term profitability without regard for future growth opportunities, which usually results in lost customer and employee satisfaction. Investment into new opportunities is also low and most opportunities are gained with maximum effort by a few employees whom afterwards are not rewarded for their efforts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The biggest piece of advice to Benchmark is to allow leadership to be produced from the top job performers within the company. Many times the company is rewarding a manager who has no knowledge of any of the actual work needed to perform a task, complete a project, or solve a complex problem. Many times the manager is simply a task completion auditor and meeting coordinator and arbitrarily will try to reduce the completion time while increasing the meeting frequency.
