I have been working at Benefits Data Trust

Pros

Casual dress code. Close to transportation. Pay is better than other non-profits. Good benefits.

Cons

No room for advancement at all. Seems like seniority/ time invested into the company does not matter. Mostly Outbound call center work which makes you feel like a telemarketer. Feels kind of like school in the sense where you have to let people know when you are going on break, lunch, bathroom, etc. They ask for feedback but really only want positive feedback.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make things streamlined (If someone from management can bring in their child when they don't have school, why can't a regular representative do the same). Offer more time off and better raises.

    Pros

    Hourly pay is decent and the location is perfect. Very casual dress is allowed. The work is all about helping people. None of the staffing ups and downs of some not for proftit companies because of government subcontracts.

    Cons

    It's 95% automated telephone work. The work feels shady after 6 months. Call center staff could be treated better with more time off, better benefits, and flexible hours. You don't have to ask permission to use the restroom, but you do have to let at least one person know before you go. That person could ask you to wait a few before going.
    Very little room for open criticism. Management asks, but as soon as you give it prepare for their collective wrath. Most staff is under 30 years old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Allow call center staff the same flexibility that management gets: flexible hours, more time off, and the occasional ability to bring children to the office. It would also be nice to hire a full time HR.

    I worked at Benefits Data Trust

    Pros

    The pay is much higher than any other non-profit phone job. The entire management staff is very approachable, flexible and respectful.

    Cons

    Too many overeducated, socially conscious, self righteous people at once can be overload. There are lots of annoying college students that work here.

    Management does a fine job. No complaints.
