I worked at Benjamin Moore full-time

Pros

The worker bees (workers below director) are a great group of smart, hard working people. Good cross functional cooperation between various groups (R&D, production, marketing, etc.)

Cons

Senior management is run by one or two tyrants who have everyone running scared. Decisions are made at senior VP level and announced. Try to discuss the ridiculous decisions and face retribution, up to being fired.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Last CEO, lasted a year, put a lot of people without any paint experience who do not have a clue about the business, and let go the wrong people in senior management. Get rid of the left over senior people.

I have been working at Benjamin Moore full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great heritage, best products in market, smart owners (Berkshire). Best brand in the industry.

    Cons

A lot of changes in upper management; an old-boy culture that's changing (but not yet fast enough)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The last year brought a lot of changes that need to continue. Customers are seeing that we're moving in the right direction and that needs to continue with new CEO.

I have been working at Benjamin Moore full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The history of quality prior to 2006

    Cons

I cannot remember feeling less enthusiastic about going to work everyday. People are now zombies with no sense of loyalty or purpose. Managers are kissing up to the new CEO like they did to the previous two CEO's, doing everything to advance their status, while doing nothing to grow the business. Its a disconnected management in the truest sense, and in every sense of the word.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To Berkshire management; to say the company is making money was a weak attempt at deflection. Stop doing it. Say what it was, a short term money grab by the previous short term focused management, at the expense of long term health of the business (Berkshire"s usual Mantra) which is now reaping what it sowed, embarrassment and disdain. To current management; the new managers don't know and the tenured one's were the cause of the problem. Get information, and guidance, from the paint people...the real ones who know and care.
