Pros

Overall it is a great company from an interpersonal perspective. It is very flexible, offers generous benefits and the people are really nice.

Cons

There is little to no direction throughout all levels of the organization. Priorities are constantly and you frequently find your work going unused or unnoticed. No one wants to take a clear position on what needs to be done to advance the organization. It seems to be a very political game right now where little work is actually getting done.

Advice to Management

Stop getting so caught up in the cool and fancy ideas and look at the more tactical things that we can do to grow market share and sell more paint. The fancy is nice long term, but we need to get the basics down first...after all, it is a gallon of paint.

    Pros

Very hard working STORE LEVEL employees, a product once known for being something of great quality, strangely loyal customers that are still buying a product hoping that it will preform in the way it did the week before.

    Cons

The fact that everything this company does makes no sense and is amazing that Warren Buffett hasn't fired every over paid member of "upper management" boogles the mind. The grossly bloated salaries of the individuals running a once great product into the ground while the employees at the store level die a slow death trying to scrape by a living off of the scraps that corporate tosses down is unfathomable.

    Advice to Management

Start paying attention to what's going on around you rather than hiding behind those doing all the work and than taking all the credit. Pay your employees a fair wage as opposed to the crumbs that are swept off the table after what's left from your sickening salaries. Go back to school and learn the basics of how to run a business rather than simply running a business into the ground.

    Pros

Free lunch, but is that really a reason to work here??

    Cons

    - Everyone is so scared of being in the next round of layoffs that nothing gets done.
    - People pretend to be nice, but are stabbing each other in the back to save themselves.
    - The direction changes very regularly and no one knows what to do, so NO ONE DOES ANYTHING.
    - There is a discernible tension between people who have been there for decades and new people being brought in to fix what's clearly broken.
    - Senior management is made up of new people who have one foot out the door or people who have been there a while and don't want to change.
    - Good work/good ideas are not welcomed.

    Advice to Management

Current CEO (MS): Pay as much attention to the people in your organization as the retail network! It's great that retailers feel heard, but you have mid and senior managers (i.e.- VPs) who are just hiding out because they're in positions they don't know how to perform.
Raise your standards for the work performed and how people treat each other. The current culture is toxic and people are not doing good work as a result.
