I have been working at Best Buy Canada full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Flex-hours, company gym and co-workers generally make an OK working environment. Company shuttle is convenient for those who don't drive and faster than transit.

Cons

Advancement opportunities are rare. Employees are treated as disposable, creating an uncertain working environment. Various departments very often have communication difficulties resulting in confusion, missed deadlines and finger pointing. Compensation is often not competitive when compared to other equivalent positions at other companies. No consideration is given for prior experience when salary is being determined for non-manager roles.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees more and offer programs to aid in advancing their career within the company. Best Buy needs to investigate further on remaining competitive on salary and benefits with the realization that the company is based in one of the most expensive places to live and should adjust accordingly.

    Pros

    * Plenty of downtime
    * Always some interesting people to work with

    Cons

    * Teach and practice deceptive sales practices
    * Immature, short-sighted management
    * "Team building" exercises

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    People will always find out how bad a deal they got after they've left and had time to think about it; if you want repeat business, you're doing everything wrong.

    Lots of micro management, very anti-people management style.

    Pros

    Excellent opportunities, should you work very hard and get your voice out there.

    Cons

    Management is apathetic and impersonal, blame associates for overall departmental woes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get involved with daily processes, process improvement starts with your associates who know the daily tasks inside and out, show them you care.
