I worked at Best Buy part-time (more than an year)

Pros

I worked with a lot of great people, it can be like a second family.

Cons

For non commission there is a lot of pressure on sales. My store had some shady backdoor business going on, and my GM picked her favorites and let it be known. She only promoted people who were her skin color.

Actually view what your Managers are doing with your stores and make sure that all employees get the same opportunities.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The discount and vendor accommodations are great! The people you work with are awesome and all like to have fun, until management comes around and kills all the fun and happiness of working there.

    Cons

They expect you to live there, meaning there is no work/life balance. They expect you to bend over backwards for the company but won't give you anything in return or make exceptions for you for small things. Too many organizational changes over the past 2 years which has led to the overall best buy culture to diminish and people wanting to leave. It used to be a place where you were always excited to go to work and enjoyed working there. Now, it's a miserable place that's constantly changing policy and are looking for ways to reduce staffing by firing people for stupid things. They're trying to hide the fact they are doing mass layoffs by firing people for stupid policies that are unfair to employees who have no real HR department, just a call center in India.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put back the fun in "having fun while being the best" and create fairer company policies without loopholes for management to find a way to fire people.

    Pros

Company discount could be worse, for a retail store. Most fellow employees are friendly. If you're passionate about selling things to people this could be an okay place to work. If you like loud music constantly playing, then it might be for you.

    Cons

Pay is abysmal, even for a retail store.
    Management
    Lack of opportunities for advancement
    Stressful work environment.
