Pros

Excellent pay, excellent benefits, performance pays real dollars, employee starting pay is better than competitors allowing you to hire better hourly associates, interesting products.

Cons

Very little mentorship, high pressure, no life, senior leadership is fond of the 'good old boy' mentality, very entrenched cronyism. I was very lucky that the field management, at the time, was more focused on results due to being new to the area.

Advice to Senior Management

Many promotions these days take place from within. There are still markets where they have no real bench or have already placed all their friends, where an outside candidate has a chance.
You had better be real great at making your boss feel smart and superior or be great at getting results and motivating employees. Sadly the former is more important than the latter when you get to the level where the rubber meets the road. At the corporate level the usual dogma is espoused but it never makes it to the field and they know it.
