I have been working at Best Buy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The discount is nice. If I were to recommend working for this company at all, it would only be as supplementary income while working your way through college.

    Cons

Low pay, little room for advancement, poor pay increases with perfect performance reviews, low pay caps, buddy system hiring, inaction with under-performing leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management positions demand a great level of flexibility and sacrifice and the pay is on par with what one can expect to make with a two-year degree. One can expect to work for multiple years to reach the level of associate manager, and probably another 5 years to reach the level of GM (if they ever get that far), it makes far more sense to go to school and find any of 2,000 entry level positions that pay better, with far less of a personal investment.
If you are going to make the demands of your staff that you do, you should pay them appropriately.

You can move up quickly if you put forth a lot of effort and are doing the job you want before you interview for it.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It can be a fun environment with your co-workers. If you get in good with the right people you can get decent discounts on items that are "end of life" and need to leave the store. You do not (usually) need to bring your work stresses home with you, unless you are a manager. They are very good about paying you for your time, and there is a lot of training available if you want to take advantage of it.

    Cons

Working holidays is not fun (they do try to make it fun at the store, by providing food, etc). In a retail environment with younger associates there can be a lot of drama. They are constantly changing and even though it may be for the best it can be a lot to get used to. Management can basically be fired at any time, and a new manager will come in and possibly change it all around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not slack off as much. Work for what you are paid for.
