Pros

Learn the ins and outs of the business with full access to every report you could ever imagine. Plenty of training.

Cons

Work life balance. Leadership not focused on singular goals but trying to be the best at everything at one time and not seeing enough of them through.

Advice to Management

Set your sights on a goal that must be met and see it through.

    Pros

Best Buy provided a great platform to prepare oneself for the rigors and politics of the professional world. The company is very open about sharing the company financial information with all employees and this gives you a pretty good idea of what the key metrics are for driving profits and stock prices. It was a non-commission sales environment (I use the term "sales" loosely here) so it was a good place to learn the ropes and decide if sales is your thing or not.

    Cons

Store managers are for the most part useless to the average working employee in terms of mentoring and/or sales training. The walk around with clipboards and preach about numbers and company values but you would scarcely see any of them actually sell anything or know what to do to improve business. I was also disgusted with how most management "marketed" themselves constantly and were always attempting to claim credit for anything that they could. They would take every opportunity to show how much they had changed this or that to further their own career and always prioritized that over actual progress.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of getting the core company values to be lived by the store managers and experienced at the customer facing employee level. Loosen up on the SOP a little. Empower the store to make decisions to adapt the business and improve sales.
