Pros

Learns lots of great skills, there is quick movement for promotions in some areas, work life balance is decent outside of holiday season. There is a gym on campus, cafeteria is solid/reliable, dry cleaning services, banking as well, very convenient. If you are assertive with your direct leadership you can really make sure you are getting the personal development that you would want out of your position. You have an opportunity to take your career to any area you are passionate about just because you have a supply chain background doesn't mean you can't become a merchant or go to marketing.

Cons

Most top talent leaves after a couple years because compensation is not competitive, people come in and get the skills/training they need to be successful and they leave for better compensation. Layoff re-structure in 2014 is very distracting to the campus, every week entire team's are consolidated and jobs impacted. Under performing individual contributors typically don't get fired or helped they continue to drain the team, until layoffs come and they are the first person to get cut or their manager helps them get promoted to another area so they are someone else's problem.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be mindful of current opportunities:

So some area's constantly need to rehire, retrain people because we can't retain the people we should. Pros

Learned a lot on setting goals, worked with the public and gained self confidence that I didn't have going into the job and learned a great amount when it came to sales and supporting the customer. Had the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people.

    Cons

-Management can in some cases play favorites however this likely varies from store to store.
-Not much room for potential growth, a relatively dead end job.
-Some processes require collecting information multiple times before the unreliable pos station will let you proceed. Working for the "leading name in tech" and relying on tech that regularly had uptime issues was mildly embarrassing when it happened in front of a customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Implement new technologies to help improve efficiency. POS systems on average took about 20 minutes to reboot and on a busy day would severely impact customer wait time.
Continue tweaking the policies and procedures, with each iteration they improve and show that best buy has a real chance to become the number one name in tech.

    Pros

Time off policy was overall very good. Of course the employee discount was wonderful. I thought the employee culture was very positive.

    Cons

It is very difficult to advance. Tenure is irrelevant and if you're a performer but not in the right role then you can also forget about opportunities. There were lots of external hires as well and nearly no cultivating of internal talent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cultivate internal talent
