I worked at Best Buy full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Great Benefit with the employee discount in the stores. The team I worked with was good.

Cons

Sales were very difficult at the time and Best Buy was very much needing to re-organize. The CEO had just been let go due to an inappropriate relationship. They really needed to fix things. Looks like they've done a decent job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep thinking about how you can change the stores, because the gigantic big box model will not work anymore.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is great if you can find a manager that has your best interests in mind. Bonuses, both monthly and annually, are great extra incentive to sell your heart out! If you're lucky enough to be employed by that kind of manager, they'll accommodate your school schedule.

    Cons

As a full time employee, there is no work/life balance. Your days off are not days off. There is no such thing. Even with full time benefits, you will not get any requested days off September-January. It doesn't matter what it's for, and it doesn't matter if you absolutely need the time off. Vacation time isn't approved during this time either. To have healthy and happy employees, it seems necessary to take care of them, and year after year, they never are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider investing more into your front line employees, allowing them one weekend off a month like you do with your general managers. In my experience, the GM or Mobile Manager doesn't deal with customer issues and pawns them off on their leads. Full Time employees should have a weekend off as well, without work related texts and calls, and have the chance to be reenergized and enjoy personal time off.

    Pros

Good opportunity to be on the leading edge of consumer products, and a lot of fun to work with people who have similar passion. The discount was amazing and some of the partnership perks like Intel Retail edge of Microsoft Expert zone were pretty awesome.

    Cons

The work life balance was pretty bad. More time spent at work, or recovering from work. Leadership treated us more like cattle. If you move from one position to another, where the hourly pay cap is lower then the current position, your chances for getting a raise become 0%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend less time off the floor making friends with other managers. remember employees are not just bodies.
