Best Buy is a GREAT company to work for but unfortunately you can run into managers that lack development skills.

Pros

Benefits are great! Medical, Dental, Vision, Matching 401K and Tuition reimbursement. Employee Accommodation and discounts. Development is highly encouraged for those that seek it out. They provide a lot of resources. Compensation is good.

Cons

Sometimes you run into bad managers. So its a good idea to do research before taking a new position.

Advice to Management

Understand and know your employees. Sometime personalities don't always get along. The employee might be a good worker and actually function better under someone else's leadership. So let the pride go and help them into a different role under new management. I used to think it was always the employee's fault and not my leadership skills. Help them succeed.

    Pros

Employee Discount is best around and has yet to be beat. Good beginner's experience in a sales environment. Fellow employees are respectful and easy to get along with.

    Cons

Most levels of management lack any real education after high school. This leads to uneducated decision making and a lack of direction. This goes for management on the district level as well.

    Advice to Management

Show some tact around both employees and customers. The most irritating trait most managers share is the low they are willing to sink to in order to up their numbers in order to bonus.

    Pros

Plenty of freedom, and the discount/accomodations are solid

    Cons

Quarterly reviews lack substance and direction...Ive worked in a few stores and the current one lacks the leadership to provide clear and direct coaching, only provides statements of the obvious with no effort to help. This is the only time ive run into this with BBY as my older stores were more excited to help coach you and get you to where you want to go.

    Advice to Management

Watch you GM's and AM's more closely...When district and territory level staff are walking stores they should only talk to line level w/o the store managers there, and more surprise visits...
