I have been working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The Harvard medical research and clinical network is immense and having a Harvard e-mail can open a lot of doors. Good insurance, $5 red sox tickets. Very multinational and ambitious collaborators.

Cons

Expensive to live near, expensive to park near. Commutes can be long and Boston drivers are tense. Environment can be demanding which produces an occasionally nasty/bitter co-worker.
Research space in my group was tight and unorganized, which led to unnecessary tension exacerbated by a particularly nasty administrator

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would be nice if a minimal research space organization and cleanliness was mandated, this matters to me but not enough others cared to make a difference. Corporate America figured out that work space affects productivity a while ago.

Wonderful place to work, but needs better employee benefits

I have been working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere. Wonderful training. Amazing coworkers. Teamwork is encouraged. Just a great place to work!

    Cons

The benefits are terrible compared to other hospitals. The plan has assigned tiers, but levels of coverage within the tiers varies by the type of billing structure in each office, making it confusing, and often hitting employees with bills for being seen by BIDMC doctors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revamp the benefits. It's fine if you want employees to use BIDMC doctors, but don't have weird tiering exceptions based on whether the clinic is office based or facility based. If you want to attract and retain employees, and compete with Partners whose benefits are supreme, it won't happen with the current benefits package.

I have been working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great educators and work environment. Everyone is caring and concerned with providing the best possible care, as well as the best possible education. The hospital allows you to grow if you are just starting out in your career, and there are experienced and intelligent professionals who will help guide you.

    Cons

Sometimes it can be a bit stressful, especially on the West Campus. Sometimes communication can be difficult between different care providers.
