This company started out with a vision that included treating their employees with fairness and respect. Not anymore.

I worked at BevMo full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people in the field. The customers.

    Cons

Corporate management. Blatantly deceptive bonus system. Salary at all levels of in-store employees. Physically horrific monthly display changeovers. Laughable communication from the office to the field. No benefits for PT. Benefits slashed for FT. Annual raises that don't even come close to cost of living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a week in the stores. See, feel and deal with what those in the field feel every day. Perhaps then, you will consider paying them for what they really do, so far above and beyond their "job description", it's laughable. Show some respect, support and, most of all, some appreciation.

Started out well but in the last couple of years, Bevmo has been on a decline.

I have been working at BevMo part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun environment and subject matter, good training for specialized positions, sometimes other wine and beer companies offer discounts for Bevmo employees. Many of the local store managers are cool people (upper level management is a different story).

    Cons

As with most retail jobs, the pay is an absolute joke. Upper level management does not care about how much pay it takes to survive. They only care about their bottom line. There are some minimal advancement opportunities but positions that pay a living wage are difficult to come by. Shift work doesn't allow you to spend time with people who have "normal" schedules. Full time employment is only offered to management. The corporate office is always trying to dictate their "new great idea" to the local stores from their ivory tower instead of letting the local store cater to the customers that they interact with on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your workers a living wage. Maybe there wouldn't be so much turnover and you wouldn't have to retrain employees all the time if you give your employees enough to live on. Give more control to the local stores. WE talk to the customers every day and know what they want. A bunch of bean counters sitting in an office who have never worked retail a day in their lives should not be micromanaging the local stores.
