I worked at Big 5 part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with hours due to school schedule and other activities. Teaches you how to be responsible and prompt.

    Cons

Doing truck and getting paid just a little more than minimum was a buzz kill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For those doing truck days, offer a higher base pay for their work to be compensated.

I have been working at Big 5 part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The work is easy to get used to, the majority of customers are not rude, the management is good, and all of my co-workers are really nice and friendly. Flexible hours, and plenty of them if you have the availability.

    Cons

Dressing up in business casual makes working in the back room difficult, minimum wage pay when first hired, and minimal raises. Some rude customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some time to reward part-time employees with better raises, and down-grade the dress code to maybe a polo with no tie, with the same dress code for everything else. Also, different hairstyles and facial hairstyles should be allowed, as long as they are not outlandish.
