I worked at Biltmore Company full-time (more than an year)

Pros

It's a beautiful place and employees have access to the Estate. The family who owns the company is wonderful.

Cons

Some guests are extremely high maintenance and during busy seasons this can sometimes be stressful.
The pay stinks. You will not be allowed to have 2 days off in a row- a crazy policy that doesn't allow for much work-life balance!
There is not a lot of consistency between supervisors, and you can get a different answer to the same policy question based upon who you ask/their mood. Employees are encouraged to share their opinion, but then get in trouble.
Don't think this is a foot in the door. I never saw anyone promoted to work in another area of the company, and there's very little room for growth with this department.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have great people working for you, appreciate them! Be willing to train people instead of just writing them up. Also, there should be more consistency from leadership.

I worked at Biltmore Company part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

you make so many friends, everyone I worked with was very nice. The management are very friendly, supportive, and easy to talk with. Some of the employees have been there for years and years. The employee appreciation events are very nice, makes you feel like they genuinely care and put forth effort to show it.

    Cons

During the busy season, November-January, you can start to feel like a machine on repeat because there are so many visitors and it gets very crowded and overwhelming. The breaks are not very long, 30 min sometimes only 15 if your shift is short, and you have to stand on the concrete all day. If your feet are not used to it, it can hurt A LOT. I suggest investing in some good shoes with LOTS of support. The pay is not very good at all, I think the fact that there are a lot of bored retired folks here who will take any pay does not help that factor. For all you are expected to do for the visitors, they should pay more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The breaks need to be longer and the pay needs to be better. It is not McDonalds. You know there is a lot more etiquette, interaction, and training that goes into the job and this needs to be reflected in the salary.
