I have been working at Bio-Rad Labs full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

people, comumute and location for east bay workers

Cons

management operations and purchasing manager deride through fear tactics. especially those in operations at the CSD plant. Intimidation and insecure personalities; they take no accountability for their failures and mistakes. Be prepared to be blamed for their inept decisions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your freaking eyes and notice the employee dissatisfaction it is not one of the best places to work in the Bay area, it is a law suit waiting to happen.

Loads of talented and bright people, with good ideas, actively ruined by lackluster (at best) management.

I have been working at Bio-Rad Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fantastic colleagues, great campus, get to work on cutting edge biomedical devices and software, laid back atmosphere reflects family business mentality

    Cons

Through countless projects I have seen first-hand how management has actively squandered both ideas and talent. The solution always seemed throw more management at the problem which naturally made things worse

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If your brightest employees are suggesting a change, at least give it a go; otherwise, prepare for more attrition...

I have been working at Bio-Rad Labs full-time

    Pros

I have heard that this company was loyal to employees and there was reasonable job security compared to other biotech companies. However, this is changing now. Nonetheless, good place to start after graduation to get some industrial experience. Pretty good work life balance.

    Cons

My review is strictly about the clinical diagnostics, since I do not have experience in other divisions. Top heavy company. There is very little possibility to moving up. Though part of the employee benefit is educational assistance, they pretty much do not approve any of your request, if it was not directly applicable to your CURRENT position. And of course you would not be in that position if you do not have already the necessarily education to do the job. There is no career development, everyone does the same job, regardless of education level, and even if you move up it doesn't mean you get more responsibility. The job itself is very repetitive, they always fall back to the good old ways, and management is not open to new ideas. If you are a hard core scientist do not even think about working here, you will be frustrated how things are done.
Right now it feels like there is no direction, the company is loosing money, they lay-off people and it does not seems like there is an idea how to make progress. Solutions seems to be "band-aid" like.
    Lots of politics and favoritism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plan ahead before making decisions and ask the opinion of people who can make the difference.
