    We missed the boat

Current Employee - Software Architect in Waltham, MA

    Pros

Execs keep us in the loop
Compensation in line with other positions in greater Boston area
    Positive work environment

    Cons

CTO travels so much he no longer leads dev innovation
PC security is being solved by hardware and O/S creators by baking in whitelisting at the most fundamental level
App Stores for PC/Mac with central revocation simplify whitelisting
Administration of our white list solution is massively cumbersome so our adoption rates are very low
Mobile and Cloud applications are the future of most new computer usage and development. Bit9 is wholly unable to secure these types of use cases
Product not really effective against data-loss
Posted losses for every quarter since we started.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need a mobile/cloud competition plan and need to execute on it now. Honestly I think we missed the boat and we can't recover since the market has moved on ahead of us. At best bolt-on whitelisting like we provide will be of niche value only. Cloud applications can secure against both malware and data-loss in a way we never can. O/S manufacturers are baking in whitelisting solutions directly in the operating system that decreases our value there as well. Corporate desktop spending is down. We are far too complex to be a consumer product.

Good Idea Poor Execution - Not enough innovation

Current Employee - Senior Software Developer in Waltham, MA

    Pros

    Whitelisting is a fantastic idea
Bit9 is among the first in the space
    Security space is growing rapidly
C-level executives are great communicators and inspire confidence

    Cons

Turn over has been very high
The best, brightest, most creative have left or are leaving
VP of Eng is very conservative and process driven. Ideas and innovation are secondary to the metronome of regular status updates
Feedback from customers is dealt with tactically by engineers instead of strategically at the product level.
Product is incredibly hard to use/deploy so adoption rates are very low even by excited customers
Company has no answer for mobile devices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The big players can afford to be conservative. Bit9 has to be disruptive and innovate to compete. Currently that is not the behavior and we may be losing ground to other solutions
