BRS: A great place to learn; but long hours, lots tech/systems, and by no means a pathway into portfolio management

Pros

Smart people, very detail oriented, lots of responsibility for recent grads and young professionals. Very competitive comp.

Cons

If you're a person with investment banking or pure asset management aspirations, BRS will not be the most direct route for you. The approach to learning about the market/industry is akin to learning a language one word at a time... Very bottom up, devil's in the details etc.

Advice to Management

1) Focus less on finance / econ grads when recruiting and more on Comp Sci, Engineering, etc
2) Have mid-level managers do more to ensure analysts are periodically seeing the "big picture"

    Pros

salary, cameraderie, location, light-filled offices, diversity

    Cons

inner circle mentality, more stick than carrot, non-experts making subjective decisions, hierarchy and politics over strategy and common sense

    Advice to Management

reconcile iShares/BlackRock tensions at senior levels, stop reorganizing by adding layers, rationalize salaries, talk to people like you aren't mad at them all of the time, don't let toxic leaders keep seats warm

Zombieland. Exhausting hours, pressure to never take time off, dead end boring jobs. Need to hire MANY more people.

    Pros

Its good for the resume if you don't stay too long.
    Clients always first
Teammates are great, and some of the supervisors are decent people

    Cons

They will suck every last bit of life, health, and mental energy from you. And then tell you that you're so lucky to work at BlackRpck. And not give you raises or anywhere near the bonuses you were promised when hired. Break out your salary by number of hours worked and you might be better off in retail.
No respect for life outside of work. Extreme pressure to never have a single sick day. Call you on vacation days. Forced to stay in job for 3 years before transferring to another role - jobs starting at 6:30 am and every single solitary Sunday. Not how it was explained at time of hire.

    Advice to Management

HIRE MORE PEOPLE. And then hire some more. Focus on internal mobility, and not just the Operations jobs in Delaware.
