One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made in my career was taking a job at Blackhawk

Pros

The company is situated in a convenient location.

Cons

The turnover there is incredible particularly in the IT/engineering groups and Accounting. The number of people leaving the company without a job is astonishing. For 95% of the people there, the workload is HUGE, compensation is a joke and the working conditions are horrendous (they've implemented bench seating...it's like working on a fully occupied picnic table).

Advice to Management

Running a business includes knowing how to treat your employees.

    Pros

Good Business, Great Idea, Backed by Safeway

    Cons

Worst place to work for, especially the Technology group. Bunch of dumbheads managing the technology group, who thinks they are the best in the industry after Steve Jobs but don't have a clue on what to do in their role. They make your life miserable in their struggle to fit in their role by trying out crazy ideas and playing dirty politics.
Seriously don't know where do they hire these morons from...
You will see managers, who tries to take respect by force from the team and take credit for your hard work. As if they have an internal fraternity and all the team members will have to be subjected to their hazing to continue in work.
I am taking the next offer that I am getting and moving out of here.. Any other offer is better than this...

    Advice to Management

In bay area, where you have so many good managers, who proved themselves, as senior managers and chiefs, in good technology firms in silicon valley, how do you manage to hire a bunch of morons to manage the technology group. Start up companies manage to poach senior managers from tech giants like google, apple, Ebay, MS,....

Seriously get some good senior managers, who know their job to manage technology. You can save the company from a lawsuit (like groupon...)

    Pros

Most Sr. Management positions & above work hard sometimes & get payed well. Everything beneath that level works 5x's as hard but never sees returns for their efforts (AKA the Proletariat). A great company for college grads who need work experience & plan to move on after 2-3 years.

    Cons

The HR department is completely non-existant. This company works like a startup but is no longer a startup (in business for 10+ years). Blackhawk Network is not the company to work for if you are looking for career advancement opportunities that entail salary increases of 3.5% or better.

    Advice to Management

Encourage additional education and training for all levels, especially HR, Sr.Management and above.
