I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

On-site gym, cafe, volleyball court, basketball court. Pay isn't that bad with profit sharing. No other place in Irvine that I'd want to work. Although WoW is declining, I see a lot of potential with the new games that are being released.

Cons

Too much middle management that protects themselves. Losing the start-up, "agile" culture that made Blizzard great. A lot of beaucracy in decision making. Egos in different departments that want to have complete control over different parts of the environment compound that problem.

Company is great, but Platform Services has much to improve.

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tons of different departments to see and explore career paths. Company offers a lot of different learning and development courses throughout the year. Company has a health/wellness program to get gamers moving.

    Cons

Work/life balance takes a hit depending upon the team. Platform Services department is mostly based on who you know to get advanced. Whereas hard work, contributing when asked, is not recognized. Compensation is a yearly question that appears in surveys, but never gets resolved. Throughout the year employer delivers taxable goods (i.e. - free games, books) that employee doesn't have a say whether or not they want it. This is considered a part of the employee's salary/benefits.

    Advice to Management

Assess and restructure the personal management positions (supervisor, asst manager, manager). Those positions do not understand what each of their reports' team does, and rarely take the time to understand it. Thus reviews are based off of information that the report's team members give, not through their own personal oversight.

I worked at Blizzard Entertainment as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    > The internship program was well established. There was a lot of opportunities to interact and get to know the other interns, and the University Relations team really try and reach out and make sure interns are achieving their goals. There is also an intern fair at the end of the summer for interns to showcase things they have done to each other, and to fellow Blizzard employees > The perks were great. Can't complain about being able to play pre-released games. > There are a lot of smart people here, and they are all gamers. Pretty much everyone who owns a 3DS brings it to work every day to play with each other. This creates a really enjoyable and relaxed working environment > Good working pace. Blizzard is never in a big rush to ship anything so you can pretty much set your own pace in your work. This also gives a very good work/life balance. > Beautiful campus (the library here has a lot of old games and tech books, and there's a running trail on the side) > Really encourages collaboration and exchange of ideas among engineers. This is a really good learning experience for an intern. > Great morale and team events!

    Cons

    > Compensation is a little low, but the perks you get somewhat helps it a little. > Nothing else :)
